Pro Tips for Eye Makeup Behind Glasses

Just because you wear glasses doesn't mean you ixnay on the eye makeup! I wear contacts most of the time, but I love wearing my eyeglasses 🤓 Think of them as another accessory, a statement piece✨

Here are some pro makeup tips to keep your peepers front & center when they're behind glasses. Here I am in great light (no filter) wearing some of my favorites glasses…yes, I’m obsessed with frames!

• Make sure you wear concealer. Eyeglasses can enhance dark circles.

• Prime your eyes before eyeshadow with concealer (set with powder) or eyeshadow primer. Eyelids can get super oily under glasses.

• Up your eyeshadow game a few notches. You want the shadow to be more dramatic than your basic everyday application. And don't forget the liner and loads of mascara...go smokey or winged, it will look gorgeous!

• Apply highlighter in the inner eye area, brow bone and the outer eye area where it meets the top of the cheekbone (reflects light to reduce the appearance of fine lines)

• And don't forget a lippy! Neutral or bold will look great! I love wearing bold lipstick!

Clean Beauty Lipliners

Let's chat clean beauty lipliners! Since Beautycounter doesn't offer lip liners at this time, I've had to test and try out different clean versions. Here are my favorites and color suggestions for most lipstick colors. 

Try to not be distracted by my messy handwriting to see my lipliner suggestions to coordinate with Beautycounter's Color Intense Lipstick shades. 

Lipliners are fantastic with keeping lipstick from creeping into the little fine lines, helps with longer lipstick wear and to change up lipstick colors. Don't be afraid to use with lip gloss as well!

RMS Daytime Nude - The perfect neutral for light to medium skin tones.

RMS Nighttime Nude - Deeper neutral for all skin tones.

Jane Iredale Earth Red - Warm burnt red

Jane Iredale Plum - Cool deep plum

Pro tip: You don't need an exact match of lip liner to lipstick. RMS Daytime Nude or Nighttime Nude depending on skin tone can be used for reds, plums, etc.

It’s about progress, not perfection.

Thyroid Disease. Three major surgeries within five years. Motherhood. Having a young child with an Autism diagnosis. Each of these major events led me on a path searching for ways of living with less toxicity in every aspect of my life. 

About three years ago, I found myself at a place of some serious soul-searching. My son had been diagnosed with Autism, and I was in recovery from my second neck surgery. If that doesn’t double you over with humility what will…seriously?!?! After processing all that had happened, I realized I could either lie there and have a pity party for myself or I could do something about it.

I started researching and educating myself on my son’s condition, which led me into looking at food, GMOs and the gut-brain connection, which led me to research harmful ingredients in personal care products, cosmetics, cleaning supplies, cookware, paint, carpet, etc…you get the picture.

There was a point in this process where I thought, “I’m so overwhelmed with information overload, where do I even begin?” But I just started slowly, by taking baby steps, making the small changes, which did add up.

My thyroid condition has been affected in such a positive way; I’m border-lining almost normal thyroid levels even with one thyroid gland. My allergies are almost non-existent. My son’s health has improved, and he has progressed so much that his diagnosis is now considered mild.  

So, follow me as I share what I’ve learned and continue to learn on a daily basis regarding living a healthier and cleaner way of life. This is by no means trying to be perfect, completely organic/green/clean, hence the “greenish.” In Goodness Greenish. I’m just doing the best that I can with the knowledge I have gained.

Do you know what's In your water?

Water, an integral part of our survival, without it, we would not remain alive. Have you ever thought about what's in your tap water? Filtered or not? It should be safe to drink, right? Did you know that even trace levels of these contaminants like; chromium hexavalent (yes, this is the contaminant that Erin Brokovich dealt with), arsenic, lead, pharmaceutical drugs, etc. can cause many health issues. Health problems such as cancer, hormone disruption, organ damage, thyroid issues...this list can go on and on. Bottled water, well, this is a multi-billion dollar industry that has not only wreaked havoc on the environment and many communities (watch the documentary Tapped) but has fewer regulations than tap water, that is crazy!!! Not okay. 

My husband and I have always used a water filter of some sort, whether it was a Brita pitcher or refrigerator filter. We were thinking about doing a reverse osmosis water system, but then we would need to take supplements for the lack of minerals with such a system. After much research, we decided on the Big Berkey System 2.25 gallon capacity for our family of 3. It's a perfect size for us, easy to fill and use. (see links below) We love it! The water tastes like nothing. Clean. How it should be.

The last time there was an assessment of our water supply in Dallas county was January to March 2017; the results were compliant with federal health-based safety standards. In 2015, ten contaminants tested above health guidelines. Also, are the contaminant levels that are legal, really safe? Plenty of scientists believe even in small amounts; most contaminants could still pose a health issue. Decide for yourself, do your research, get your family a water filtration system/pitcher. There are a lot of reputable brands that can get most of the contaminants out. (see resources below)
